Make a Super Quick Cosy Throw

Make a throw that suits the recipients and you have the perfect gift

The perfect wedding gift, a personal throw

This super quick cosy throw is the perfect solution to a wedding gift dilemma. Deciding what to get as a wedding gift can be tricky, especially when the couple have been living together for a while and there is no wedding list to choose from. So knowing the couple like cuddly things, I decided to make a super quick cosy throw.

It really is a super quick make, that is made  even more personal by the choice of fabrics. The bride, Sam loves flamingos so I bough some Flamingo cotton fabric from Sew Creative in Petersfield. James, the bridegroom is not so keen so I backed it with a super soft and must-stroke navy Minky fleece! So they have a side each!!

The Minky fleece was 150 cm wide, so I got 1.50m of the cotton making it easy to pin the two layers together and just cut a bit of the minky down. The finished size is therefore ample for a couple to cuddly under on a chilly night.

Super Quick Cosy Throw – So Easy to Sew

I sewed the two layers right sides together, leaving a gap in one edge to turn through. I did use my walking foot as I found the minky had a tendency to creep as it was sewn. I also sewed both long sides in the same direction, so that any creepage was minimised and could be dealt with at one end. Once seams were trimmed and corners cut at an angle, I turned through and pressed, then slip stitched the opening close.

A magnetic guide helped keep the top stitching perfectly straight

I quilted a star in the centre to help keep layers together

To keep layers together properly. I top stitched 2.5cm from the edge all the way around – using a magnetic guide on my sewing machine to help keep the top stitching accurately spaced from the fabric edge whilst whizzing along at speed! I finished by quilting a star in the centre of the throw to hold the layers together.

They bridal couple were delighted with it.
